Heroic18 1

On Watchinsight.com we are taking a closer look at the new Swiss Made Heroic18 MS7400. A truly impressive bronze diving watch created by Panerai collectors/enthousiast and specialized Panerai strap makers. Watch and straps suppose to be made by the highest standards. I think, this has worked out very well. So, you are a true connaisseur of Panerai watches, specialized in making straps for this brand and with all the knowledge you have gathered you create your own watch.

Heroic18

Looking at the Heroic18 website, it is mostley about straps for Panerai or Panerai styled watches. The company is runned and founded by Donald and Caroline and indicates a US based company. However, it is just like most micro brands based in Hong Kong, the centre of micro brand watches and designs. They made several models in steel and bronze  so far. I bought a steel Herioc18 with white dial some 2 years ago as a present for my wife. She has worn it day and night ever since and I am very impressed with the quality of this brand. It is not the Swiss made version, but it was the trigger for me to by this new Swiss made version in bronze.

Heroic18 MS7400 black dial

So today we are taking a closer look at the Heroic MS series, more specific the 7400 model. Available in four (4) Swiss Made versions 7100-7400 with blue, green and black dials. All limited to 199 pieces so we are talking about less  than 800 pieces in Total.

Case

The case of this CuSn8 crafted bronze diver is set to be 46,5mm in diameter, 56mm lug to lug, 16,6mm in thickness without the sapphire and 24mm lugwidth. A pretty bold diving watch so to speak, but it wears very nice and comfortable. The case is nicely brushed and it is fitted with a 120 clicks bronze bezel with lume dot at the 12 o ‘clock position. On top a truly magnificant 4.5mm double domed sapphire with AR coating is placed. I knew that one from the white Heroic 18 we have here. Screwed down and signed crown with crown guards and locking tool like the Panerai divers. At the back a screwed 316L stainless steel caseback is placed with, of course, a sapphire window to see the movement. The case is water resistant up to a 500 meters, but we will never know I suppose 😉

Dial and hands

Looking at the dial is looking back at the history of divers of the 40s and 50s. It is a vintage made and looking sandwich dial, no date window!! and just showing us the time. At the upper halve the Heroic18 logo is prnted. At the 9 o ‘clock position a small circle with Special Edition is printed and on the 6 o ‘clock position it is marked Heroic18 automatic. And the interesting printing is of course?……..Yes, Swiss Made!! For a watch or movement to legally have the “Swiss Made” designation upon it, the watch or movement does not have to be made or assembled completely in Switzerland. In fact, only a certain percentage of the components must be made in Switzerland, and the watch does not need to be put together in Switzerland. On the hand and dial C3 super luminova is used for clear visibility at 500meters depth.

Movement

Like I mentioned, it is a Swiss Made watch meaning in this case there is a Swiss movement under the hood. Not the standard ETA 2824, no they used the Sellita SW200-1 movement. Almost similar to the ETA 2824. Since ETA i slowing down production, this movement is the best Swiss alternative. In fact, they have made movements for ETA in past. So it is a 28800 bph  25 jewels movement.

Straps and package

And here we go agian. As you know I am not that enthousiastic about leather straps on a diving watch. VDB f.e. delivers a leather and a rubber strap, and that is oke. You must have a rubber strap included in a package like this. Heroic18 delivers two (2) leather straps, an Italian in olive green and a brown shark strap. The quality is very nice, specially the Itilan strap is very well executed. But, instead of two (2) leather straps Il would have like 1 rubber strap.  Of course a CuSn bronze buckle is included. The watch is very well packed in a beautiful wooden box, warranty booklet and a set of extra push pins.

Final thought

Very well executed bronze watch. Swiss Made, CusN bronze, sandwich dial, Swiss movement and sapphire crystal. Very good and complete package for around $1000,-. And let’s be honest, every watch collector should have a bronze diver! This could be the one for you.
