Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Automatic

Alpina has a strong heritage when it comes to sport watches. The first Alpina sport watch appeared around 1938, the “Alpina 4”. The newly added Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 models have strong characteristics and come in a variety of colours.

Alpina sport watch history

The first Alpina 4 was a kind of sport allrounder. At the time of its origin their were four characteristics on what a good sport watch has to meet:

  1. Antimagnetic
  2. Water restitant
  3. Anti shock
  4. A robust stainless steel case

In time a few other things became more important than these four, thing about weight, different more sustainable materials. But for this periode in time Alpina took these guidelines very serious. The Alpina 4 was equipped with the well known hand-wound Alpina 592 calibre.

The first real diver appeared in 1969, Alpina Diver “10 Seastrong”. This watch was water resistant to 200m and of course anti magnetic. The watch was moved by a 17 jewel automatic movement. The “10 Seastrong” had two crowns, one to adjust the hands and date and one to determine the decompression time through a 1-60 minute rotating bezel.

New Divers At BaselWorld

This year at BaselWorld we saw the new Alpina Seastrong Diver 300 Automatic for the first time. The first thing to notice is the nice bezel, which comes in a red, black, grey and blue colour. The color of the dail is matt black with applied white colour luminous indexes. Hands are also white luminous except for the grey model, this one has ivory hand, indexes one the dail and bezel.

The crown is a screw in version which makes is harder for water to get into the watch case. The triangle on the bezel and the dail is a wink to the legendary triangle logo of the brand. The bezel can be turned both ways and feels solid this is a so called unidirectional 60 minute diving bezel.

Case itself is 44 mm cushion shaped stainless steel one. It can manage depths up to 300m/1000ft. It has a scew-in see-through caseback which allows you to see the Alpine AL525 automatic caliber.

The strap is made of a water resistant leather with stitches, also rubber straps will be available in different colours.

With this new diver model the heritage of the earlier models comes back to life. Subtle hints to historical models, like the triangle at 12 o’clock and the shape of the hands.
