Eza Sealander Diver

Pforzheim 1921, Hermann Becker started his company specialised in making watch cases for other brands. During the 1950’s he was already a well know case maker and started to make Eza watches. The manufacture even made their own movements but didn’t survive the harsh competition of the Quartz moved watches. Now a couple of dutch watchionista’s dug of the rich heritage and gave it back its live again with the Eza Sealander as their first model.

Good things always come alive during a conversation with some nice drinks and the right person on the other side of the table” Adriaan Trampe referred to owe of the first conversations he had with co founder Diederik van Golen. Both of them watch lovers and young entrepreneurs. The idea arose to start their own watch brand and make the watch they were both looking for. The name of the brand was quite a search, making up a name wasn’t an option. Both of them agreed is would be an almost impossible job to establishing a new brand, with a new watch in an already well fed watch world. The agreed on looking for an existing brand which wasn’t producing any more and had a heritage which lined up with the ideas they had in mind.

Eza was a name with a heritage that were on the same track of mind, but was already claimed by a company. It took a few good converstations and a business plan to convince the owner they could make Eza come alive again.

Eza Sealander

The Eza Sealander is the first watch designed by the dutch duo. It has a diver design to it with some influences from other brands, but it isnt a clone like you see so many now a days. If you hold or wear it comes to live. This is one of those watches you have to see and experience in real life.

The 41 mm case is made out of 316L steel and is milled by CNC. Is feels really robust with some very subtle lines. The balance of brushed and high polished parts of the case is good.

The crown is a screw down version with 3 gaskets making it withstand the pressure of 300 m. Making it a serious partner for those who love to dive. The design makes it easy to handle and wears the Eza logo.

The bezel is made out of scratch proof ceramic and feels really solid because of its construction. It has two springs on it and is uni – directional with 120 clicks. The way its shaped makes is easy to handle even with diving gloves. They have two colours for this model blue and black.

The backcase is a screw on engraved with important details of the model and showing the logo of Eza.

The crystal is double domed, anti reflective Sapphire.

Just like the bezel it comes in a blue and black version. The dial has a 3d effect on it because of the engraving of the cross lines. These lines really contribute to the appearance of the complete watch.

The indexes are filled with C3 Superluminova in a cream/yellow colour which gives it the look of an aged patina. The hands have the same look to it.

This not a simple case of copy pasting existing models, there’s a it more to it. The clean diver design looks good on leather, nato, and would do just fine on a steel bracelet to. The only downside is, the watch is best to be judged in real life because of the way it feels and how the colours come to life if you move it around. The dail has an amazing depth to it.
