Rado relaunched the True Open Heart models last year. This year at BaselWorld two new editions where added to the line up. The Rado True family has two new members that can be added to the 2016 Lightness-inspired collection.
Rado has evolved to one of the pioneers in ceramics in the last three decades. The material before mainly used in the medicine and aeronautics because of its unique characteristics. Its these characteristics what makes it highly suitable for crafting watches and watch parts. In addition to its remarkable lightness, ceramic adapts to your body temperature almost immediately, so it will never feel too hot or too cold against your skin. Smooth and lightweight, it floats on the wrist, becoming an extension of the wearer.
Housed in the brand’s signature monobloc case, the Rado True Open Heart offers all the benefits of a watch crafted from Rado high-tech ceramic. Engineered from ultrafine zirconium oxide powder, high-tech ceramic is an incredibly light material: At 25% lighter than steel by volume, it is among the lightest materials used in luxury watchmaking. In addition to its remarkable lightness, ceramic adapts to the wearer’s body temperature almost immediately, so it will never feel too hot or too cold against the skin. Smooth and lightweight, it floats on the wrist, becoming an extension of the wearer.
Although its light weight may suggest otherwise, high-tech ceramic is impressively hard and durable. With a hardness rating of around 1,200 Vickers, high-tech ceramic is nearly five times harder than steel (250 Vickers) while being only a fraction of its weight. As a non-metallic material, high-tech ceramic is also gentle and hypoallergenic, meaning it can be worn by anyone with metal allergies or sensitive skin.
This is one of the unique features of this watch. The dial is made out of an almost translucent piece of mother of pearle. This dial is 0,6 mm thin and almost seems to be floating underneath the sapphire and hands. True this amazing array of diaphanous colours you can look right to the heart of the watch. The ETA movement can be seen and is highly decorated.
Ceramics is one of those products you either love or hate. The last years other companies have been using all kinds of ceramics and make rather good looking models. This model of Rado has one unique features that stand out immediately when you see it for the first time. The dial made of the very thin Mother of Pearl which give it this beautiful see through experience. I personally prefer the black edition because it has more contrast to it.
